Shaheen's Test career over? [Source: @moiz_sports/X.Com]
Things have gone well for Pakistan's star pacer, Shaheen Afridi on the field, but off the field, there are quite a few issues which might cost him his place in the Test team foreover. The ace bowler had a remarkable ODI series against South Africa and helped the team defeat the Proteas, 3-0.
However, he has now entered a fresh controversy which could hamper his international career. As per Cricket Pakistan, ahead of the squad selection for the South Africa series, one of the selectors told Shaheen to participate in a four-day warm up match and to his surprise, the pacer straightaway rejected the idea and it was termed as "disobedience", which led to his exclusion from the Test team.
Interestingly, a similar instruction was given to Babar Azam, and just like Shaheen, he, too, rejected the idea. However, unlike the pacer, he escaped punishment and was included in the Test team and was also included in the playing XI for the first Test match.
Shaheen excluded by giving workload management excuse
As per the reports, Shaheen Afridi was committed to play the Test series, but he was left disappointed as the pacer was not included in the Test team. After the ODIs, Shaheen also offered to stay with the team to help the young pacer, but the selectors ignored the advice and sent him home.
Reports added that the entire Pakistan team is upset with one of the selectors, who maintains a commanding attitude and has immense power in PCB's day-to-day planning. Surprisingly, the left-arm seamer was excluded from the South Africa Tests under the pretext of workload management, but the real reason was his disciplinary issue.
