India’s star batter Dhruv Jurel suffered a painful blow to his ring finger during the ongoing second unofficial Test against South Africa A in Bengaluru on Day 4. The incident occurred early in the morning session when Mohammed Siraj was bowling and Jurel was fielding in the third slip position.
Dhruv Jurel suffers finger injury
As SA-A opener Lesego Senokwane attempted to guide a delivery outside off stump, the ball appeared to brush Jurel’s right-hand fingers before running down to the third man region. He was immediately seen in pain, holding his hand, and soon left the field with visible discomfort.
The injury comes just a day after Dhruv Jurel’s remarkable performance with the bat. He had scored twin centuries in the match. In the first innings, he scored 132 runs at 175 balls at a strike rate of 75.43. In the second innings, he scored an unbeaten 127 at 170 balls with 15 fours.
At the time of the incident, South Africa A was comfortably placed at 139 without loss, with Jordan Hermann and Lesego Senokwane batting in the middle.
Will Dhruv Jurel play 1st Test vs SA?
It is important to mention that earlier this year, Jurel made headlines by scoring his maiden Test century, 125 runs off 210 balls against the West Indies in Ahmedabad. His consistent form for both India and India A has made him a strong contender for the upcoming two-match Test series against South Africa.
According to a recent report by PTI, as quoted by Hindustan Times, he is likely to be selected as a specialist middle-order batter, especially with Rishabh Pant returning from an ankle injury. It is worth noting that he can fit in two slots, that is, at No.3 in place of Sai Sudharsan, and the other player he can replace is Nitish Kumar Reddy.
Jurel’s injury will now be closely monitored by the Indian team management, as his recovery will play a crucial role ahead of the important Test series against South Africa.
