Du Plooy unbeaten 75 ensures Super Kings post a competitive total

After being asked to bat first, Joburg Super Kings got off to a rusty start with only 62 on the board at the end of the ten overs. Captain Faf du Plessis, who opened the innings for the first time in the tournament, was scoring briskly but lost his wicket after the powerplay. Reeza Hendricks at the other end was struggling to score even at a 100 strike rate.

Leus du Plooy, who got promoted up the order, started to increase the run-rate after having a steady start. The left-hander extracted two big overs immediately after the first half and Super Kings were finally looking good for a big finish.Hendricks ended his poor stay after scoring 45 off 50, which definitely was not going to help the men in yellow one bit.

However, du Plooy, who held the innings together, continued his onslaught as he took on Wayne Parnell, smashing him for 21 in the 19th over and helped JSK to post 168 for 6 in 20 overs. Eathan Bosch was the pick of the bowlers for the Capitals as he took 3 wickets and gave away just 12 in his three overs. Anrich Nortje also scalped a couple of wickets, including the wicket of du Plessis. and gave away 26 in his four.

Chasing 169, Pretoria Capitals were off to a great start as they scored 57 in the powerplay but lost two wickets, including the in-form Will Jacks. Phil Salt was making sure the scoreboard kept moving but was soon sent back by Aaron Phangiso in his very first over. Super Kings regained control as the visitors could only add 27 off the next four overs.

It was then Jimmy Neesham, who tried to reduce the asking rate and carted Phangiso for three consecutive sixes. However, Phangiso struck back immediately and had the last laugh with the wicket of Neesham to complete his second T20 four-wicket haul.

Pretoria still needed 52 off the last six overs with Wayne Parnell and Eathan Bosch in the middle. Despite the best efforts of Parnell, Super Kings held their nerve and won the game by six runs.
