Paarl Royals restricted the Durban’s Super Giants within 10 runs of their target, thus climbing to number two spot on the SA20 2023 points table.

Paarl Royals opener Jason Roy ended his 13-ball painful stay at the crease at the end of the third over. His English teammate and opening partner Jos Buttler marched on with number three Wihan Lubbe and the duo shared a rapid 53-run stand for the second wicket.

While Buttler lost his wicket for 35, the latter cracked an effortless half-centuries glittered with five boundaries and three sixes. Handy middle-order contribution from captain David Miller defied the Super Giants in the death overs as Paarl Royals charted 169-6.

Reece Topley, Hardus Viljoen, Keshav Maharaj and Prenelan Subrayen all picked a wicket each while Dwaine Pretorius struck twice in his expensive four-over spell.

Three ducks featured in Giants’ response, including that of skipper Quinton de Kock in the fifth over of the run-chase. Heinrich Klaasen made the lone notable contribution in the innings, however, even his unbeaten 56-run effort was not enough to take Giants past the finishing line.

Among the Royals bowlers, spinner Bjorn Fortuin snared three wickets, all while conceding just 14 runs of his four overs. Moreover, speedster Evan Jones claimed a four-fer as the duo collected seven of the eight wickets to fall in the second innings.
