Australia kept West Indies lead down to just 10 runs after the defiance of Roston Chase and Shai Hope. Beau Webster picked up two wickets in the innings while Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins took a wicket each to add to their overnight collection. In the second Australian innings, West Indies fast bowlers once again came to the fore to level the playing field by stumps.
Here, we take a look at the entire highlights of Day 2, as it panned out at the Kensington Oval in Barbados on Thursday, June 26.
Chase, Hope Fight On But Webster Minimize WI Lead
Josh Hazlewood castled overnight batter Brandon King to pick up the first wicket of Day 2. Roston Chase at number six led West Indies from the front with a fighting 44 alongside wicketkeeper-batter Shai Hope (48 off 91). The two cricketers shared 67 runs for the sixth wicket to attain some stability for the hosts.
However, two quick wickets for Beau Webster tilted the tide back in Australia’s favor, with Nathan Lyon capitalizing on the momentum with the final wicket of Jayden Seales. Mitchell Starc also cleaned up Shamar Joseph to pick up his third of the innings as Australia folded up West Indies for 190 in 63.2 overs to minimize their deficit to 10 runs.
West Indies Quartet Put AUS On The Backfoot
Australia lost both openers, Usman Khawaja and Sam Konstas to Alzarri Joseph and Shamar Joseph respectively by the time of reaching 34 in 11 overs. A poor judgement from Josh Inglis accounted for his downfall against a rampaging Jayden Seales while Justin Greaves trapped Australian number three Cameron Green as the visitors slipped to 65-4 in 25 overs.
Travis Head (13*) and Beau Webster (19*) survived the final eight overs of the day to take Australia to 92-4 in 33 overs by stumps.
