After whitewashing the Sri Lankan team in the T20I series, the Indian team is taking on Sri Lanka in the first of the three match ODI series at the R. Premadasa Satdium in Colombo.

The Sri Lankan skipper, Charith Asalanka won the toss in this game and opted to bat first. The home team did not have a great start to their innings as they lost Avishka Fernando early in the innings. After the early shock, the Sri Lankan middle-order did not show much resilience as wickets kept on falling.

Pathum Nissanka, the lone warrior

It was Pathum Nissanka who held one end for the team and kept them going. When Washington Sundar accounted for him in the 27th over, it looked like Sri Lanka will fall short of a fighting total.

But the lower order of the Sri Lankan team decided to put up a fight. Dunith Wellalage anchored at one end while Janith Liyanage and Wanindu Hasaranga tried to play around him. Among these two batters, Wanindu Hasaranga looked good in the middle and had a partnership of 36 runs off 52 balls with Wellalage.

Wanindu Hasaranga becomes a part of the fight back

Hasaranga's innings was decorated with two maximums and one boundary. It looked that he is well settled in the middle and might take Sri Lanka to a respectable score. But it did not happen as the all-rounder played a casual shot and threw his wicket after getting set.

On the last ball of the 43rd over, Arshdeep Singh bowled a short delivery wide outside the off stump. Hasaranga rocked back and cut the ball in the air and into the hands of Axar Patel at backward point.

This was an important wicket in the context of the game as Hasaranga's presence in the middle could have made a difference of 30-40 runs to the Sri Lankan total.
