Rohit Sharma added yet another significant landmark to his ever-expanding T20I profile after India trounced Afghanistan in their series opener at Mohali. The cricketer has already tallied several staggering records in the format, including the milestones for scoring the second-highest number of runs, highest number of sixes and being the most-capped player in history.

Sharma has now become the first cricketer ever in T20Is to feature in 100 wins for his respective team and is currently 14 wins ahead of the second-placed former Pakistan captain, Shoaib Malik.

Rohit Sharma completes century of T20I wins

Rohit Sharma returned to India's T20I lore after a gap of 14 months through the team's ongoing home series against Afghanistan. The cricketer, who made his T20I debut back during the 2007 T20 World Cup in South Africa, was stuck at 99 wins ever since the conclusion of the 2022 edition in Australia.

While Sharma was dismissed for a duck in his comeback game, his troops comprehensively routed Afghanistan by six wickets and 15 balls to spare to take a 1-0 lead in the series.

The win also marked the 100th of Rohit Sharma's T20I career, out of the 149 matches he has played for his country.

Interestingly, the next player after Rohit Sharma, with the highest number of T20I wins, is legendary Pakistan all-rounder Shoaib Malik.

The seasoned 'Men in Green' campaigner featured in 86 wins for his country in 124 appearances. Virat Kohli (73 wins), Mohammad Hafeez, and Mohammad Nabi (70 wins each) hold the next-best tally of victories in the celebrated list.

Rohit Sharma can now further enhance his T20I profile, as he is slated to lead Team India in the remainder of their series against Afghanistan. Moreover, the cricketer is also in line to represent the 'Men in Blue' in this year's T20 World Cup 2024.
