Babar Azam is back amongst the run-getters as the Pakistan batter scored a valiant fifty to keep Pakistan's hopes alive for a big score in the second ODI match. He looked in imperial touch and showed his class on a tough pitch to bring up his 39th fifty-plus score in SENA countries.
Babar came into bat early in the innings as Abdullah Shafique was dismissed cheaply. However, he, alongside Saim Ayub forged a crucial partnership before Saim was dismissed by Kwena Maphaka. The former Pakistan skipper started the innings with a lovely square drive and since then he never looked back.
Once Saim departed, he joined forces with skipper Mohammad Rizwan as runs started to come easily and Babar notched up his 33rd fifty in the ODI format.
Babar breaks MS Dhoni's record
With this fifty, Babar broke India great, MS Dhoni's record by smashing his 39th fifty-plus scores Vs SENA countries across formats. Dhoni had 38 fifty-plus scores across formats against the SENA nations.
After the century, skipper Rizwan came upto Babar and congratulated him for a stellar knock. Babar's place has been questioned repeatedly after failures in the last 1.5 years. His last hundred in ODIs came in 2023 during the Asia Cup clash against Nepal, and since then, the former skipper hasn't touched the three-figure mark.
Pakistan will hope that today is the day when Babar breaches the 100-run mark and goes onto seal the match for his side. At the moment, Pakistan are 121/2, with Rizwan accompanying Babar at the crease.
