Will Pant be fined? [Source: AP Photo]
Rishabh Pant's Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have had a decent IPL 2025 campaign so far, but the captain of the team, Pant has been under the hammer for his batting performances and captaincy decisions. In patches, he has done well as a leader, however, most of the times the LSG captain lacked the cutting-edge.
Will Pant be fined by IPL?
In the match against Mumbai Indians, Pant as a captain looked clueless and was slow in his decision-making as the LSG bowlers finished the first innings in two hours. Normally, a T20 innings takes 1 hour and 10 minutes to finish off, however, the team from Lucknow took 20 minutes extra and their captain could face the wrath of IPL.
The IPL's governing body has generally been strict with its decision-making and Pant could be slapped with a hefty fine for the slow over-rate Vs MI. Interestingly, this could be Pant's second such offence, with the first one also coming against Mumbai on April 4. Last time he was fined 12 lakhs, however, if he gets punished again, the amount could increase.
MI post commanding 215/7
Put into bat first, Mumbai Indians posted a commanding 215/7. The onslaught was led by Ryan Rickelton, who smacked a brilliant fifty and gave a fiery start to the team. The mantle was carried forward by Suryakumar Yadav, who also slammed 54 off 28 balls and helped the team post a well-compiled total.
In reply, LSG started on an aggressive note as both Mitch Marsh and Aiden Markram started with barrage of boundaries, but Jasprit Bumrah did the damage and dismissed the dangerous Markram for 9 off 11 balls as the team still requires 178 to win.
