In a significant development, India’s captain Harmanpreet Kaur won the toss and decided to bowl first against Bangladesh in their last group match of the Women’s World Cup 2025. The game is being played at the Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy in Mumbai on Sunday, October 26.
India have made three changes to their team: Uma Chetry, Radha Yadav, and Amanjot Kaur are coming in, while Richa Ghosh, Kranti Goud, and Sneh Rana are out. Bangladesh have made one change, with Fargana Hoque sitting out and Sumaiya Akhter coming into the team.
Notably, wicketkeeper-batter Uma Chetry from Assam is making her ODI debut.
India vs Bangladesh: Captain's thoughts
Nigar Sultana Joty (Bangladesh Women Captain): "(On batting first) Yeah, I think it is kind of good for us. Our bowlers have been doing well for us. So we have to give them a good total which they can defend.
(On last loss against Sri Lanka) It was pretty difficult but we have to move on. As a team, you have to play match by match and we are coming here, looking to play our A game.
(On what total they are targetting) I think the way our bowlers have been bowling, 230-plus runs could be a good total, looking at the conditions."
Harmanpreet Kaur (India Women Captain): "We will bowl first. It's just because of the overcast conditions. We thought that it will help our bowlers. That's why we decided to bowl first."
