Royal Challengers Bengaluru's IPL captain Rajat Patidar had a sensational start to the domestic season, as he hammered a belligerent century in Central Zone's ongoing Duleep Trophy encounter against North East Zone in Bengaluru. Patidar, who recently recovered from hand and heel injuries, thus proved his readiness ahead of a packed cricketing calendar.

Captain Patidar Stands Tall For Central Zone In Duleep Trophy

After Dhruv Jurel was sidelined from the quarterfinal due to a groin niggle, Rajat Patidar came out for the toss as the captain of the Central Zone. The North East Zone's decision to bowl first initially proved to be a masterstroke, as Akash Choudhary dismissed Aayush Pandey cheaply.

However, Danish Malewar steadied the ship alongside Pandey's fellow opener, Aryan Juyal, with the dynamic duo adding a scintillating stand for the second wicket.

Although Juyal was retired hurt for 60 runs, skipper Rajat Patidar and Malewar didn't let the momentum slip from Central Zone's hands. Both batters eventually brought up their respective centuries, dominating the North East Zone's depleted bowling attack with skill and resilience.

While Malewar adopted a relatively cautious approach, Patidar unsettled the North East Zone's bowling attack with his ultra-aggressive game. The swashbuckling batter breached the three-figure mark in just 80 balls, showcasing his power-hitting skills in the red-ball tournament.

It's worth mentioning that Patidar had a forgettable IPL season with the bat for RCB in 2025, managing only 312 runs at a modest average of 24. Therefore, Patidar regaining his mojo is definitely a massive positive sign for Madhya Pradesh ahead of the Ranji Trophy season.

Talking about the Duleep Trophy encounter, Central Zone is steadily cruising towards a massive first innings total. As of writing, the Patidar-led side was placed at 314 for one, with Patidar and Malewar batting on 111* and 132*, respectively.
