Devdutt Padikkal, one of Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s promising batters, has continued his purple patch in domestic T20 cricket. After delivering impactful knocks for RCB in IPL 2025 while coming up the order, the stylish left-hander has carried his form into the ongoing Maharaja Trophy, leading Hubli Tigers from the front.
Devdutt Padikkal, who scored 247 runs in 10 innings at a strike rate of 150.61 in the IPL earlier this year, has shown the same intent and fluency in the Maharaja Trophy 2025. Captaining Hubli Tigers, he has already played two crucial innings, a brisk 52 off 32 balls against Shivamogga Lions and a match-defining 60 off 40 balls against Mangaluru Dragons.
Padikkal Continues Golden Form
Padikkal's 52-run knock in the third T20 fixture against Shivamogga Lions set the tone for Hubli Tigers’ massive total of 216/4. Walking in after the early fall of Prakhar Chaturvedi, Padikkal combined elegance with aggression, striking eight boundaries and one six.
He built a 100-run stand with Mohammed Taha, who himself hammered a century, ensuring the Tigers maintained a dominant run rate. Padikkal’s innings allowed Hubli to accelerate at the right stages, eventually sealing a commanding 29-run win.
Padikkal's Mangaluru Chase Went In Vain
However, in his third match against Mangaluru Dragons, Padikkal’s efforts went in vain. Chasing 196, the Hubli Tigers’ skipper played a captain’s knock of 60 from 40 deliveries, hitting eight fours and a six. He steadied the innings after the early dismissal of Mohammed Taha and shared a strong second-wicket stand with Prakhar Chaturvedi.
Despite Padikkal’s fluent innings and late cameos from Abhinav Manohar and Manvanth Kumar, Hubli fell short by 16 runs, finishing at 179/9 in their 20 overs.
Padikkal's Performance In Maharaja Trophy So Far
So far in the Maharaja Trophy 2025, Padikkal has scored 116 runs in three innings at an average of 38.67 and a strike rate of 146.84. These numbers reflect the confidence he has carried from his IPL season, where he played key innings of 61 off 35 against Punjab Kings and 50 off 27 against Rajasthan Royals.
As the tournament progresses, all eyes will remain on Padikkal, who seems to be growing into his role as a leader while also cementing his reputation as one of India’s most consistent domestic T20 performers.
