Indian spin wizard Ravichandran Ashwin experienced an unusual day on the field during Day 2 of the second Test vs England in Vizag, remaining wicketless for the first time in 26 innings on home soil. Despite India's commanding performance against England, which saw the hosts take a significant 143-run lead, Ashwin could not contribute to the wickets tally.

IND vs ENG: Unusual dry spell for Ashwin as India tightens grip on second Test

Bowling 12 overs in the match, Ashwin conceded 61 runs without claiming any scalp, marking a rare off day for the spinner renowned for his brilliance on Indian pitches. The match, however, will be remembered for Jasprit Bumrah's extraordinary feat as he became the fastest Indian pacer to reach 150 Test wickets, capturing six wickets on a pitch that offered little assistance to fast bowlers.

His performance along with Kuldeep Yadav's three wickets and Axar Patel's solitary scalp were the highlights of a dominant display by India's bowling unit. However, his lack of wickets was a notable deviation from the norm, especially considering the Ravichandran Ashwin stats in home conditions.

This occurrence marks only the third time Ashwin has gone wicketless in Test cricket at home after bowling a minimum of 10 overs. His figures in this match were his second most expensive at home, a stark contrast to his usually economical and wicket-taking spells.

The last time Ashwin did not take a wicket at home was against Bangladesh at Eden Gardens in 2019, highlighting the rarity of such an outcome for the off-spinner. Despite this, India remains in a strong position in the match, showcasing the depth of their bowling attack even when one of their key players has an off day.
