After round 2, the competition level has increased, and the upcoming rounds will see more and more players scoring centuries and double centuries. The batters who scored big this week didn’t just pile up runs; they made statements and will be waiting for a national call-up. Whether it was about rediscovering lost form, cementing their spot in the side, or showcasing untapped potential, these knocks carried meaning far beyond the scorecard.

Here are the five standout batters from Ranji Trophy 2025 Round 2 who made headlines with centuries and double centuries.

Prithvi Shaw – 222 off 156 balls vs Chandigarh

If one innings stole the spotlight, it was Prithvi Shaw’s explosive double century for Maharashtra against Chandigarh. His 222 came off just 156 balls, making it the second-fastest double hundred in Ranji Trophy Elite history. Shaw reached his hundred in 72 balls and converted it into a double in 141, dismantling the bowling attack with breathtaking ease.

After a quiet first innings, Shaw returned with controlled aggression and perfect shot selection, which helped him dominate the bowlers throughout the innings. His hunger to return to the national side is one of the main reasons behind this innings. Hence, it was less about statistics and more about intent.

Ajinkya Rahane – 159 vs Chhattisgarh

For Mumbai, Ajinkya Rahane played an innings of pure class, scoring 159 against Chhattisgarh. Coming in when his side needed him the most, Rahane absorbed pressure and rebuilt the innings through textbook cricket and immense concentration.

Rahane’s effort reflected why he’s still one of the most dependable names in Indian domestic cricket. Every partnership he built was crucial in pushing Mumbai toward a strong total. It was a reminder that in the age of fast scoring, traditional batting still wins sessions and defines results.

Karun Nair – 174 vs Goa

While playing for Karnataka, Karun Nair showcased his elegance and composure with a superb unbeaten 174 against Goa. Nair anchored the innings masterfully, ensuring Karnataka maintained control throughout their first innings.

After years of fluctuating form, this knock was a reaffirmation of Nair’s class and hunger. It wasn’t just another big score; it was a statement of intent from a player still capable of turning games single-handedly. His ability to stay patient while building an innings remains one of his most significant assets.

Ruturaj Gaikwad – 116 vs Chandigarh

Maharashtra’s Ruturaj Gaikwad provided the perfect foundation in the first innings against Chandigarh with a brilliant 116 runs. Known for his composure and timing, Gaikwad’s innings displayed the mindset of the technically sound batter who understands the rhythm of red-ball cricket.

He started cautiously, respecting the new ball, and gradually opened up with fluent drives and precise cuts. His century set the tone for Maharashtra’s dominance, ensuring stability before Shaw’s fireworks took over.

Harnoor Singh – 170 vs Kerala

Among the new generation of players, Harnoor Singh shone brightly with a magnificent 170 for Punjab against Kerala. The 21-year-old opener played beyond his years, showing remarkable composure against both pace and spin, and scored 170 runs.

Harnoor’s innings stood out for its balance; he was aggressive without being reckless, cautious without losing momentum. This century further cements his reputation as one of Punjab’s brightest prospects and a player to watch in the coming seasons.
