Rajasthan Royals (RR) once again proved too strong for Chennai Super Kings (CSK), winning by 32 runs in the 37th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 on Thursday, April 27 at Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur.

The Super Kings' chase of 203 runs began on a sour note as Adam Zampa struck early to dismiss their in-form Devon Conway for just 8 runs off 16 balls. Ruturaj Gaikwad tried to steady the innings with a blistering knock of 47 runs off 29 balls, but unfortunately, Zampa cut short his innings as well.

The Super Kings’ pillar in the middle order, Ajinkya Rahane failed to make a significant contribution with the bat and was dismissed for just 15 runs off 13 deliveries. Ambati Rayudu also failed to get going, perishing for a two-ball duck.

Moeen Ali played a quick knock of 23 runs off 12 balls, hitting two fours and two sixes before Zampa got the better off him. Shivam Dube put in a tremendous effort to bring his team to the brink of victory, but the Rajasthan Royals' bowlers proved to be too much for him.

Dube finished with a score of 52 off just 33 balls, while Jadeja remained unbeaten for 23 runs off 15 balls. For Rajasthan Royals, Adam Zampa stole the show with an exceptional bowling display, taking three wickets while conceding less than eight runs per over.

R Ashwin also made a valuable contribution with two wickets, and Sandeep Sharma was the team's most economical bowler, conceding runs at an economy rate of just six, however he couldn’t add any wicket against his name.

Jaiswal's fireworks sink CSK bowlers

Earlier, after winning the toss, Rajasthan Royals chose to bat first, a decision that paid off as their opening duo of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jos Buttler provided them with a blistering start. They stitched together an opening partnership of 86 runs in just 51 deliveries.

The Super Kings bowlers had no answer to Yashasvi Jaiswal's devastating form as he went after them from the word go. He hammered a brilliant 77 off just 43 deliveries, hitting eight fours and four sixes, while Jos Buttler had a relatively quieter innings, scoring 27 off 21 balls.

Their captain Sanju Samson and finisher Shimron Hetmyer have had a bad day at the office but their new batting star Dhruv Jurel and Devdutt Padikkal put up a valiant effort, guiding their team to a score of over 200 runs at the end of the stipulated 20 overs.

While Dhruv Jurel played a blitzkrieg knock of 34 runs off just 15 deliveries, Devdutt Padikkal also contributed with a quickfire knock of 23 runs off just 13 balls. Their efforts helped Rajasthan Royals post a mammoth total of 202 runs.

Maheesh Theekshana was Chennai Super Kings' most impactful bowler, with an excellent economy rate of six and a wicket to his name. Meanwhile, Tushar Deshpande picked two wickets for them, but he was slightly expensive with an economy rate of over 10. Ravindra Jadeja also chipped in with a wicket.
