Rahul Tripathi was visibly distraught after being run out during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 Qualifier 1 match between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Tuesday (May 22).

Tripathi had been anchoring the innings, scoring a vital 55 runs before a brilliant piece of fielding by Andre Russell ended his stay in the 14th over.

The run out unfolded when KKR star all-rounder Sunil Narine bowled a short delivery outside off, and Abdul Samad cut it behind square on the off-side. Samad took off for a run, not realizing that Russell at backward point had dived full length to stop the ball.

Russell quickly threw it to wicketkeeper Rahmanullah Gurbaz, who whipped off the bails with Tripathi stranded in the middle of the pitch.

After his dismissal, the 33-year-old Tripathi was seen sitting on the stairs leading to the dressing room, overcome with emotion and in tears, highlighting the intense pressure of playoff.

At the time of writing, SRH was in a precarious position at 125 for 8 in 15 overs, with Pat Cummins and Bhuvneshwar Kumar battling to keep their hopes alive.
