RCB pipped Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by two runs in a high-scoring thriller in Bengaluru in match number 52 of the IPL 2025 season. Batting first, hosts RCB mounted 213-5 from 20 overs at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

Virat Kohli bludgeoned 62 runs from just 33 deliveries, while lower-order batter Romario Shepherd slapped a 14-ball half-century to turbo-charge the RCB innings. RCB’s batting carnage in Bengaluru even seemed to have irked CSK captain and veteran MS Dhoni, who vented out his frustration on ace paceman Khaleel Ahmed over a fielding adjustment.

MS Dhoni irked by Khaleel Ahmed

CSK captain MS Dhoni was heard yelling at fast bowler Khaleel Ahmed over a fielding adjustment, at a time when well-set RCB opener Virat Kohli was approaching his fifth half-century of the IPL 2025 season. Caught on stump mic, Dhoni said:

“Udhar kisiko fielding kartein dekha hai kabhi?” (Have you seen anyone fielding there?)

In what turned out to be a forgettable evening for Khaleel Ahmed, the speedster leaked 65 runs off his three overs against RCB. Romario Shepherd took a special liking to Ahmed, belting the CSK cricketer for 33 runs in the penultimate over of the innings.

With half-centuries from Virat Kohli, Jacob Bethell and Shepherd, RCB carted 213-5 from 20 overs after getting invited to bat first.

In response, teenage batting sensation Ayush Mhatre led CSK’s fightback in the run-chase by cracking 94 runs from just 48 balls. Ravindra Jadeja also slapped an unbeaten 45-ball 77, however, tight spells from Lungi Ngidi and Krunal Pandya ensured a narrow two-run win for the RCB.

MS Dhoni-led CSK will now face defending champions KKR in match 57 of the IPL 2025 season on Wednesday, May 7 at the Eden Gardens.
