On Wednesday, October 15, the 91st edition of the Ranji Trophy kick-started with 38 teams competing to get their hands on the prestigious domestic trophy. Eyes were on Maharashtra as Prithvi Shaw made his Ranji debut for the new side after shifting from Mumbai.

It was a disastrous Maharashtra debut for Shaw as the right-handed batter fell for a four-ball duck. In the ongoing match between Maharashtra and Kerala, Nidheesh and Basil created havoc as the former got rid of an Indian star on the fourth ball of the first over. Nidheesh managed to trap Shaw in front of the wickets, and the ex-DC star returned to the pavillion without opening his account.

Prithvi Shaw fails to capitalise on the practice game

A week before the start of the Ranji Trophy, Prithvi Shaw hogged the headlines for all good reasons as he smashed a brilliant century against his former side, Mumbai. Shaw amassed 181 runs. He missed out on a deserving double hundred, but also engaged in a post-dismissal scuffle with Musheer Khan.

The fans were excited about a new Prithvi Shaw, who is looking to make his India return, but the 25-year-old left his fans disappointed with a duck in the first innings.

Talking about Maharashtra, they have been completely rattled by the two seamers and were restricted to 5/4.

Not a good day for Prithvi's friend Sarfaraz Khan

It was equally a disappointing day for Sarfaraz Khan as the right-handed batter came to open the innings for Mumbai against Jammu & Kashmir, but fell for a duck in the third ball of the first over off Aaquib Nabi's bowling.

Notably, Sarfaraz Khan is returning after an injury layoff and also a Test squad snub for the recently concluded home Test series against West Indies.
