Anushka Sharma, Gujarat Giants’ youngster, slammed a fluent 44 off 30 balls on her WPL debut match against UP Warriorz. As soon as her name flashed on the big screen, fans couldn’t resist drawing playful links to Virat Kohli.

Cricket lovers were genuinely impressed by the way Anushka played her innings. Walking in early after the fall of Beth Mooney and Sophie Devine, she looked calm, confident and completely in control.

Her timing was sweet, her placement smart, and her intent clear. The seven boundaries she struck were not wild slogs. They were proper cricket shots, finding gaps and keeping the scoreboard ticking.

It didn’t look like it was her debut. Anushka Sharma batted as if the WPL had been her fortress for the longest time. Her 44-run knock also played a big role in setting up Gujarat’s massive total of 207 runs.

The 103-run partnership she shared with Ashleigh Gardner turned the match on its head. 

By the time she was dismissed in the 17th over, Gujarat Giants were cruising, and Anushka walked back to a loud cheer from the stands. 

On social media, however, fans linked her to Virat Kohli’s wife, Anushka Sharma, and made memes. But a lot of fans also praised her knock and valued the 22-year-old’s talent.





Virat Kohli is married to actress Anushka Sharma. Since the Gujarat Giants’ debutant also shares the same name, fans found an opportunity to laugh at the coincidence.

After Anushka’s knock, Ashleigh Gardner finished the inning in style. She slammed 65 off 41 balls, while Georgia Wareham added 27 crucial runs to ensure GG-W surpassed the 200-run mark.

As for UP Warriorz, Deandra Dottin was off colour, conceding 47 runs. Sophie Ecclestone was UP’s best bowler, picking two wickets while leaking 32 runs in four overs.
