In a massive setback for the Brisbane Heat, ace Pakistan speedster Shaheen Afridi sustained a nasty injury in the most recent BBL encounter against the Adelaide Strikers. The experienced fast bowler left the field midway owing to a knee injury during the second half of the match.
Shaheen Afridi didn't have a great time with the ball in Brisbane Heat's fourth BBL match against the Strikers. After going wicketless for 26 runs in his three overs, Afridi sustained a knee injury that sidelined him from the remainder of the match.
Shaheen Afridi sustains knee injury in Big Bash League
Premier left-arm fast bowler Shaheen Afridi entered the BBL as one of the most high-profile overseas signings alongside his fellow countrymen Babar Azam and Haris Rauf. While the Brisbane Heat expected him to emerge as their go-to man with the new ball, Shaheen had a torrid run in the tournament before a knee injury sidelined him from the important group-stage fixture against Adelaide Strikers.
The incident occurred in the 17th over as Shaheen Afridi hobbled off, complaining of severe pain in his knee. He had landed heavily on his knee earlier, developing a bruise that caused real trouble for him as the game progressed. As a result, Shaheen had to walk off the field, jeopardising his availability for the remaining overs of the match.
"He (Shaheen Afridi) will not be returning to the field tonight after landing heavily on his right knee. Initial assessment is bruising. The medical team will assess the extent of the injury, and a further update is expected within the next 24 to 48 hours," an update on the Pakistan pacer read, as quoted by CREX.
Shaheen Afridi's injury: A blow to Pakistan's T20 World Cup plans
Shaheen Afridi has been an integral member of the Pakistani T20I setup over the years. Besides troubling the opening batters with his pace and movement, Shaheen is also a prolific operator of the old ball. Given his vast experience, Shaheen's BBL injury is a serious concern for Pakistan ahead of the T20 World Cup, where he's expected to lead their bowling.
