Pakistan and West Indies shared honors of yet another topsy-turvy day at the Multan Cricket Stadium during the second Test of the two-match series. Much like the opening day of action, spinners from both sides once again had much to say, setting up an exciting series finale with a slew of wickets.
Here’s the timeline of how PAK vs WI panned out in Multan:
PAK vs WI Highlights: Captain Brathwaite Swells West Indies Lead
Emboldened with a nine-run lead by stumps on Day 1, West Indies captain and opening batter Kraigg Brathwaite started out his team’s second gig with a counterattacking half-century against Pakistan’s raging spinners. Unleashing four boundaries and two sixes, Brathwaite punched out 52 runs from 74 balls, and shared a 50-run opening partnership with Mikyle Louis until the latter was dismissed by Noman Ali.
Mere moments after extending the West Indies lead past the 100-run mark, Brathwaite was out stumped by Mohammad Rizwan to become Ali’s second wicket of the innings, and the eighth of the match as the visitors lost both its openers by the time of reaching 92 in 23 overs.
PAK vs WI Highlights: Sajid Khan, Noman Team-Up But WI Set Tricky Target
Following the prized-scalp of a well-set Kraigg Brathwaite, Sajid Khan and Noman Ali teamed up to break through West Indies’ middle-order with a sequence of wickets. Khan had Amir Jangoo caught by Agha Salman at slip for 30 before Noman dismissed Kavem Hodge and Alick Athanaze in the space of just two overs to complete a sensational ten-wicket match haul.
Abrar Ahmed also tuned in with a key wicket Justin Greaves as West Indies crashed from 92-1 at one stage to 145-6 in the space of an hour. Tevin Imlach (35 off 57) and Kevin Sinclair (28 off 51) fought back for the visitors with valuable lower-order runs, as the two cricketers shared a fighting seventh-wicket partnership worth 51.
Sajid Khan eventually mopped up the West Indies tail at 244 in 66.1 overs to claim figures of 4-76.
PAK vs WI Highlights: Pakistan Lose Babar And Co. In Tricky Pursuit Before Stumps
Chasing 254 runs for a win, Pakistan lost openers Shan Masood and Muhammad Hurraira to Kevin Sinclair and Gudakesh Motie within just the first three overs of the innings. Kamran Ghulam at number four squandered away his start at 19 as his irresponsible shot off Jomel Warrican accounted for his downfall.
Babar Azam whacked a couple of timely boundaries and looked in good nick during his calculated 31, but his wicket to Kevin Sinclair (2-41) at the stroke of stumps plummeted Pakistan’s dwindling fortunes as the hosts reached 76-4 by close of play.
Another 178 runs away from the target, Pakistan’s run-chase will now resume on Day 3, with Saud Shakeel (13* off 27) and Kashif Ali (1*) batting at the crease.
