Pakistan scripted history as they pulled off their highest ever ODI run-chase and beat South Africa by 6 wickets in the third match of the ongoing Tri-Nation Series on Tuesday, February 12 in Karachi.

It was a record-breaking night as Mohammad Rizwan and his men secured their place in the Final match of the Tri-Nation series, while South Africa’s journey came to an end.

Here's how PAK vs SA panned out in Karachi:

PAK vs SA Highlights: Bavuma-Breetzke partnership laid the foundation for South Africa

On what looked like a batting paradise in Karachi, South Africa won the toss and elected to bat first. Captain Temba Bavuma alongside his fellow opener Tony de Zorzi started well as the South African managed 64 runs with the loss of just one wicket inside the first ten overs.

Following de Zorzi’s wicket, Matthew Breetzke, who scored a ton in his ODI debut in the last outing, joined Bavuma in the middle and the duo added 119 runs for the second wicket, before the South African skipper lost his way out in a bizarre run-out.

Bavuma finally got some runs on the board in what was a tricky period for the opener in ODIs since 2024. He departed after making 82 (96), leaving South Africa two down with 170 on the board.

PAK vs SA Highlights: Klaasen's perfect finish pushed South Africa to an above par total

While Pakistan were busy distracting the South Africans with on-field gimmicks, Breetzke, on the other side, was nearing his second century in back to back games. However, he was restricted by Salman Agha, who took an absolute one-handed blinder at covers and Breetzke departed after a well made 83(84).

Pakistan did manage to remove Wiaan Mulder in the very next over making it two wickets in two overs, but Heinrich Klaasen continued his onslaught from the other end and went on to complete his fourth consecutive half century.

Klaasen (87 off 56), alongside Kyle Verreynne (44* off 32) added another 78 runs for the fifth wicket contributing to the aggregate of 110 runs scored in the last ten overs as South Africa posted an above par 352 runs on the board.

PAK vs NZ Highlights: Fakhar Zaman led Pakistan onslaught in the powerplay

Chasing a mammoth 353, Pakistan got off to a great start as the Pakistani top-order came out firing and scored 91 for the loss of 2 wickets in the 10-over powerplay. Fakhar Zaman continued from where he left from the game against New Zealand as the southpaw was at his explosive best but unfortunately could not convert it into and Pakistan lost their third with still more than 260 to get.

Notably, following the wicket of Fakhar, Mohammad Rizwan and Salman Agha ensured that Pakistan did not lose any momentum as they took the home side to 163/3 at the halfway mark.

Both the batters were complimenting each other very well as the duo completed their half centuries with 121 runs to get in the last 15.

PAK vs NZ Highlights: Rizwan-Agha Record-breaking stand took Pakistan over the line

The Rizwan-Agha duo got Pakistan on the driving seat as South African bowlers had no answer to what was a terrific partnership for the fourth wicket from Pakistan’s captain and vice-captain. Needing 82 off the last ten overs, Pakistan had momentum on their side and both the set batters went on to complete their centuries.

Mohammad Rizwan (122 off 128) and Agha (134 off 103) added record-breaking 260 runs for the fourth wicket as Pakistan pulled off their highest ever run-chase in ODIs with 6 wickets remaining.
