Pakistan will be batting first against the Netherlands in Match 2 of the ODI World Cup 2023 on Friday (October 6) at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad. The Dutch skipper Scott Edwards won the toss and asked the Men in Green to bat at a venue where Babar Azam and his boys have been practising ever since their arrival in India.

Pakistan have ignored Usama Mir, who was in brilliant form in the warm-up matches. Instead, they have picked Mohammad Nawaz, given that the left-arm spinner can also be handy with the bat.

Along with Nawaz, Pakistan have shown faith in Fakhar Zaman as well, despite his lackluster performance in the lead-up to the competition.

For the Netherlands, veteran spinner Roelof van der Merwe and express fast bowler Paul van Meekeren hold the key among bowlers. Alongside them, Vikramjit Singh and Max O’Dowd, their formidable openers, will look to give them a solid start under lights when the chase is on later in the day.

PAK vs NED: Captains’ Thoughts

Scott Edwards

“We will bowl first, might get a little bit easier under lights. We got some quality bowlers and spinners who can bowl in the powerplay. For us, it's about adjusting and seeing how the pitch is playing.”

Babar Azam

"We will try our best with the bat. We believe in our openers, Imam and Fakhar. Shaheen is there as well. Hasan is back on the side. We are looking at 290-300 plus."
