The young Kiwi opener Rachin Ravindra set the stage ablaze during the World Cup opener after smashing a record-breaking ton to steamroll the defending champions in a humiliating fashion.

The 23-year-old announced himself on the big stage as he played a scintillating innings of 123* (96) and displayed an incredible exhibition of dazzling fireworks that caught the English bowlers off guard.

Ravindra was promoted up the order to the number three position in the absence of Kane Williamson. However, his absence was not felt in the team as Ravindra produced an innings of his life to send chills down the spine of several high-quality bowling lineups (including England) that are yet to face him in this tournament.

Following New Zealand's dominating performance over England, courtesy of a magnificent knock by Ravindra, the legendary Indian spinner Anil Kumble revealed that Ravindra reminded him of a young Yuvraj Singh.

Kumble was awestruck by Ravindra's belligerent hitting that comfortably got the Kiwis over the line. Yuvraj also displayed a similar batting calibre during his early playing days. In addition, Kumble regarded his knock as very elegant and wonderful.

"We saw what he's capable of in that warm-up game (against Pakistan) when he opened the batting. But this was very special, you know, in his World Cup debut against the defending champions to back the way he did. This was my first sort of treat of Rachin Ravindra. He looks a bit like Yuvraj Singh, a young Yuvraj Singh in his flow. Very elegant. So wonderful," Kumble said.

Like the vintage Yuvraj Singh, Ravindra appeared in free-flowing form with the bat and has shown some glimpses of his extraordinary abilities with the bat. The Blackcaps will head to Hyderabad to take on the Netherlands in their upcoming World Cup encounter on October 9.
