Pakistan Shaheens had a memorable outing in the high-voltage Asia Cup Rising Stars encounter against India-A on Sunday. After restricting the Indians to a paltry 136-run total, the Shaheens chased down the target inside 14 overs, qualifying for the semifinal of the competition. However, amid Pakistan's dominance across departments, what grabbed the limelight was a heated exchange between Saad Masood and Naman Dhir.
Naman Dhir's deadly stare follows Saad Masood's abusive send-off
The incident occurred in the ninth over of India-A's innings when Pakistan Shaheens were desperately searching for a breakthrough. Vaibhav Suryavanshi had already formed a scintillating stand with Naman Dhir; however, Saad Masood came to the Shaheens' rescue, dismissing the latter at a crucial juncture.
Masood had a torrid start to his second over, with Suryavanshi and Naman hitting him for eleven runs in his first three deliveries. However, the spin bowler bounced back remarkably, getting rid of Naman Dhir in the fourth ball of his over.
As Naman Dhir threw away his wicket by playing a rash shot, Saad Masood vented out his frustration with an abusive send-off, signalling the Mumbai Indians batter to make his way back to the dugout. The Pakistan spinner was visibly pumped up, as Naman Dhir responded with a cold stare to spice things up in the middle.
The heated exchange between Masood and Naman showcased the India-Pakistan rivalry in a nutshell amid the tense geopolitical relations between the neighbouring countries.
Naman Dhir's dismissal opened the floodgates for India-A, as the Jitesh Sharma-led outfit was bowled out for 136 runs. In response, Pakistan Shaheens raced to the target in just 13.2 overs, riding on Maaz Sadaqat's blistering half-century.
The Shaheens qualified for the Asia Cup Rising Stars semifinal, while India-A will take on Oman in their final group-stage fixture on November 18.
