Australia Prime Minister's XI will face England in a two-day pink-ball match on November 29 and 30 at the Manuka Oval, Canberra, as the visitors will look to prepare for the second Ashes Test at the Gabba, Brisbane. With both teams set to take on each other at the end of the Ashes opener, none of the members from Australia's first Test squad have been named in the 13-member team for the fixture.

Australia's pursuit for a new Test opener continues with Konstas and McSweeney

Among the notable names in the squad are the two openers, who made their Test debuts against India during last summer's Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Sam Konstas and Nathan McSweeney.

Since David Warner's retirement, despite trying out multiple names at the top of the order alongside Usman Khawaja, none of the batters have been able to seal their spot, while Khawaja's form has been a concern as well.

With Jake Weatherald in the mix now, it will be a crucial game for Konstas and McSweeney to make a mark and audition for the spot in the Test squad. So far, the squad for the second Test has not been announced, which makes it even more crucial for the duo to grab their chance.

Test outcast, who last played for the Aussies in India, 2023, Peter Handscomb will lead the team, on the back of his century for Victoria against the New South Wales last week. He is currently the second-leading run-scorer of the ongoing Sheffield Shield season, with 350 runs in 4 matches, including two centuries.

Veteran bowler Peter Siddle is among the players in the team, with Benji Floros and Charlie Anderson also in the mix.
