The 27th match of the ongoing T20 World Cup saw New Zealand annihilate Sri Lanka by 65 runs in Sydney. Swashbuckling batter Glenn Phillips hammered 104 runs, powering New Zealand to 167. Later, the new-ball duo of Tim Southee and Trent Boult ran riot as the Lankans were bowled out for a paltry 102 in 19.2 overs.

After New Zealand's thumping win, Phillips hailed Southee and Boult for their sensational new-ball spell that derailed the Lankan batting order. He also revealed what transpired between him and Daryl Mitchell while resurrecting the Blackcaps innings in the middle.

Here's what Phillips said

"They swung the new ball (Boult and Southee), the slower ones were holding onto the surface, getting early wickets was crucial and we managed to do that early. It was an exceptional performance by our bowlers and fielders, we were high on energy right throughout,

"My conversation (with Mitchell) was to carry on as long as possible, play the right possible shots, was a little difficult against the slower balls, but we managed to get to a competitive total. I couldn't put away the slower ones, but managed to execute my skills against the pacers, especially when pace was on."

With these two crucial points, New Zealand have significantly boosted their knockout qualification chances. On Tuesday, they will face England in their fourth Super 12 encounter in Brisbane.
