Daryl Mitchell, New Zealand's star all-rounder had sustained an injury preceding the ICC T20 World Cup 2022. As a result of the finger fracture, Mitchell had to sit out of the squad against the tri-series with Bangladesh and Pakistan.

In the ongoing World Cup, Mitchell was out of the squad for New Zealand's opening match against Australia, after which, it was reported that the all-rounder was fit to play again.

Although, Kiwis' second match against Afghanistan was abandoned without any ball being bowled.

Tim Southee on Daryl Mitchell

"Yep, I think Daryl has come through all the tests he needs to come through from obviously suffering a broken hand a few weeks back,"

"Yeah, I think he comes back in for the side tomorrow."

Mark Chapman was announced as Mitchell's replacement for the tri-series, he also featured in the opening World Cup match. Southee revealed who will go out to make way for Mitchell.

"Yeah, I don't think [it will be Phillips] -- I think it's probably Mark Chapman the one that's, I guess, the unlucky one who came in for Daryl in the Tri-Series against Bangladesh and Pakistan,"

New Zealand are currently at the top of the points table in their group, mostly due to their game being washed out. The BlackCaps are all set to play against Sri Lanka in their last match of the Super 12 stage.
