New Zealand decimated Sri Lanka by 65 runs in the 15th Super 12 match of the ongoing T20 World Cup in Sydney on Saturday. Batting first, New Zealand posted a healthy 167 on the board, courtesy of a fabulous ton from Glenn Phillips. Later, Trent Boult's spectacular four-for ensured New Zealand won the game without breaking a sweat.

Notably, the Sri Lankan fielders dropped Phillips multiple times, on which the swashbuckling right-hander capitalised and went on to score 104 runs. So, after the game concluded, Sri Lanka skipper Dasun Shanaka rightly termed that missed chance a significant reason behind their crushing defeat.

However, Shanaka also seemed dissatisfied with his troops' dismal batting effort and expected them to bounce back in the next match. He also lauded the Kiwi pace duo of Tim Southee and Trent Boult for their sensational new ball spell that left Sri Lanka in tatters.

Here's what Shanaka stated

"Credit to Glenn Phillips, who played an outstanding knock; but while fielding we dropped a few chances. Then 160 was maybe too much for us with the quality of Southee and Trent Boult. There is a way to chase big totals, but we lost early wickets and then lost them at regular intervals. We need to come out with a positive intent in the next couple of games."

This humiliating loss pushed Sri Lanka to the bottom of the points table. With two points in their kitty, the Lankan lions will cross swords against Afghanistan in their fourth Super 12 encounter in Brisbane on Tuesday.
