England added 100+ runs to their overnight total to finish with 499 runs on Day 3. In response to a 151-run trail, New Zealand failed miserably to weather Brydon Carse and Chris Woakes’ spells. At stumps on Day 3, the Kiwis were 155/6 with 4 runs lead in hand.

Here's how NZ vs ENG Day 3 panned out in Christchurch:

NZ vs ENG Highlights: Harry Brook’s 171 propels England to 499

England resumed batting on Day 3 from a comfortable spot of 324/5. Harry Brook converted his century to 171 off 197 balls gigantic score. Post his departure, Ben Stokes and Gus Atkinson stitched a 63-run partnership to frustrate the New Zealand bowling unit. Stokes went on to score 80 off 146 balls whereas Atkinson also contributed with gritty 48 off 36 balls. The duo’s resistance guided England to a gigantic third-inning total of 499, with 151 runs of crucial lead in hand.

NZ vs ENG Highlights: Carse, Woakes charges on Kiwis

England were bowled out for 499 runs with 50 off overs still left for the end of day’s play. And Brydon Carse and Chris Woakes charged over New Zealand, triggering an unwarranted collapse. Woakes drew first blood to dismantle Tom Latham off a seaming in delivery that Latham edged to Harry Brook at slips.

Carse joined the party to force Conway into getting a top edge at mid-on, where Atkinson plucked an excellent diving catch. That being said, Rachin Ravindra and Kane Williamson tried to pull off a rescue effort with a 41-run partnership before Brydon Carse got a breakthrough.

NZ vs ENG Highlights: New Zealand 6 down at stumps

Following Rachin Ravindra’s wicket at 64/3, Williamson and Daryl Mitchell knitted a 69-run partnership. However, with the sun setting, the Kiwi veteran was adjudged LBW off Chris Woakes. The over proved to be fateful as Woakes sent Tom Blundell packing on a golden duck, leaving New Zealand reeling at 133/5.

The last victim of the day was Glenn Phillips, who was beaten by Carse’s angling in delivery. The ball beat the inside edge and crashed into a back pad, where the on-field umpire adjudged him LBW. At 155/6, stumps were called on Day 3, and the Kiwis were leading with just 4 runs in hand.
