After the opening T20I was abandoned due to persistent rain, New Zealand (NZ) and England (ENG) will renew their battle in the second T20I at Hagley Oval, Christchurch. Both teams will be eager to get their campaign underway and gain an early advantage in the three-match series ahead of the 2025 T20 World Cup.

New Zealand

Led by Mitchell Santner, New Zealand will look to make the most of home conditions. Openers Tim Seifert and Tim Robinson have been consistent run-getters, while Daryl Mitchell anchors the middle order with composure.

In the bowling department, Matt Henry and Jacob Duffy will spearhead the pace attack, supported by Santner’s all-round experience and control in the spin department.

England

England, under the leadership of Harry Brook, will aim to regroup and deliver a commanding performance after the rain-disrupted first game. Their top order, featuring Phil Salt and Jos Buttler, promises explosive starts, while Brook, Jacob Bethell, and Jordan Cox form a solid middle-order core.

With the ball, England will rely on the express pace of Jofra Archer and Brydon Carse, complemented by Adil Rashid’s spin and Luke Wood’s swing in the powerplay.

Hagley Oval Christchurch pitch report

The Hagley Oval in Christchurch usually offers a pretty balanced surface, giving something to both batters and bowlers. Pacers can find some swing and bounce early on, but once things settle, the pitch becomes reliable for stroke play.

Interestingly, teams chasing have had the upper hand here, winning 8 out of 12 T20Is, so the captain winning the toss might be tempted to bowl first. Adapting quickly and picking the right shots will be key to success on this track.
