The Tri-nation T20I series involving hosts New Zealand, Pakistan, and Bangladesh got underway today, with both visiting teams taking on each other. Pakistan managed to attain a par score of 167 for 5, with Mohammad Rizwan doing the bulk of the scoring with a 50-ball 78.

Chasing 168 the Bangla Tigers batters got starts, but as seen recently, the middle order collapsed and lost four wickets between overs 13 and 15, contributing to their 21-run loss at Christchurch.

For Bangladesh Litton Das and Yasir Ali provided resistance scoring 35 and 42*, respectively. Speaking in the post-match ceremony, stand-in skipper Nurul Hasan blamed Bangladesh's lack of partnerships in the middle, which cost them a win.

"We are disappointed. The wicket was good and the bowlers did well. We need to improve in a few areas though.

Wickets in the middle while batting cost us. Litton and Yasir batted well, but as I said, we need to improve there."

Regular captain Shakib Al Hasan joined the squad last evening due to prior Caribbean Premier League (CPL) commitments.

Bangladesh face hosts New Zealand on Sunday, October 9.
