In anticipation of the much-anticipated inaugural match of the ICC ODI World Cup 2023, the cricketing world's attention converges upon the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. On the 5th of October, Thursday, at 2:00 PM IST, the stage will be set for a clash between England, led by the dynamic Jos Buttler, and the resolute New Zealand side, captained by Kane Williamson.

The build-up to this encounter has been quite different for these two teams. England had a solitary warm-up match, a brief encounter against India that was thwarted by rain. Fortunately, they managed to get some game time against Bangladesh in a rain-affected 37-over contest in Guwahati. Meanwhile, New Zealand comes into the tournament opener with the advantage of having played two warm-up games.

Williamson and his men showcased their prowess in a full 50-over match against Pakistan in Hyderabad, followed by a shortened contest against South Africa in Thiruvananthapuram, both of which they won convincingly.
