Considering the recent form of India and Sri Lanka, fans and experts had anticipated a cracking Asia Cup 2023 final at the iconic R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. However, the decision to bat first under challenging conditions severely backfired on the hosts, as Mohammed Siraj dismantled them with a sensational fifer. 

Opening the bowling alongside Jasprit Bumrah, Siraj wreaked havoc in the Lankan camp right from the beginning, dismissing Pathum Nissanka, Sadeera Samarawickrama, Dhananjaya de Silva and Charith Asalanka in a single over. 

As if this wasn't enough, the Indian speedster jolted the hosts with a massive blow, castling skipper Dasun Shanaka with a peach of a delivery. 

It was a gentle outswinger, which pitched around the fuller length, drawing Shanaka for an early shot off his front foot. As the ball deviated away, the right-handed finisher was beaten all ends up, with the ball uprooting his off stump. 

Thus Shanaka, who had had a mediocre outing so far, departed for a four-ball duck, finishing his Asia Cup 2023 campaign on a poor note. 

Riding on Siraj's spectacular spell, India have pushed Sri Lanka down on the mat, leaving them reeling at 18 for six in just 7.2 overs. As of writing, Dunith Wellalage and Kusal Mendis are trying to steady the Lankan ship, batting on 4* and 6*, respectively.
