Why Did Babar Azam And Shaheen Afridi Clash In Dressing Room? Here's The Reason

Pakistan had a horrendous journey in the Asia Cup 2023, as they suffered a Super Four exit, becoming the second team to be eliminated from the tournament after Bangladesh. Led by Babar Azam, the Men in Green had an outstanding start, crushing Nepal by 238 runs in the tournament opener. However, they couldn't sustain the momentum going forward, incurring heavy defeats against India and Sri Lanka that resulted in their ouster.

Besides their horrendous Asia Cup performance, another incident that shook Pakistan was a dressing room fight between their two most prolific performers, Babar Azam and Shaheen Afridi. The verbal spat, reported by a Pakistani journalist on his YouTube channel, is said to have disintegrated the Pakistani side, which was earlier hailed for unity among teammates.

Meanwhile, Pakistani media has revealed the real reason behind the verbal spat between the two superstars. As per reliable sources, Shaheen Afridi questioned Babar Azam's decision to bowl first in the high-voltage Super Four fixture against India, igniting ugly the verbal tussle.

Babar's decision to bowl first on a batting-friendly surface received massive backlash from Pakistani fans and experts after India clobbered a whopping 356 on the board, riding on scintillating centuries from Virat Kohli and KL Rahul. In response, Pakistan managed a paltry 128, losing the game comprehensively by 228 runs.

The embarrassing defeat adversely affected Pakistan's net run rate as they eventually bowed out of the tournament following a narrow loss to the Lankan Lions. Besides poor form, the injuries to Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf have raised serious concerns in the Pakistani camp before the ODI World Cup, starting in India next month.
