On Saturday, December 6, Day 3 of the Day-Night Brisbane Test got underway with Australia's tail-enders dominating the first session. The morning belonged to Mitchell Starc as the southpaw frustrated the visitors with his batting prowess.
The left-arm seamer, who has already wreaked havoc with the ball, is also making noise with the bat and slammed his 12th Test fifty. The 35-year-old slammed nine boundaries to bring up this special feat.
Starc joins Cummins in elusive list
Further, Starc also entered the record books as the red-ball talisman joined his teammate Pat Cummins to become the second player in World Test Championship (WTC) history to take 200+ wickets and 1000+ runs.
Notably, Cummins was the first to do so with 1020 runs and 215 wickets in 51 matches. Meanwhile, Starc has 1003+ runs and 207 wickets in 51 innings as well.
Mitchell Star's tryst with records
With the fifty, Starc has also now become the ninth Australian batter to complete 1000+ runs in the World Test Championship. Further, with the 1000+ runs mark in WTC history, the left-arm seamer is also the 5th cricketer after Cummins, R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, and Chris Woakes to have the double of 1000 runs and 100+ wickets.
Shedding light on Starc, the 35-year-old is on a different level as he picked up a six-wicket haul in the first innings and took 10 wickets in the first match, making it a total of 16 wickets so far in this Ashes.
At the time of writing this article, Australia are cruising towards a comfortable lead in the game and have put 478 runs on the board with a lead of 144 runs.
