Mitchell Starc got his nemesis Ben Stokes for the 12th time in Tests now in the ongoing Adelaide Test of The Ashes 2025-26 series. The fiery Aussie quick bagged the England skipper as he tried to salvage England from a wrecked situation after coming in to cover Australia’s 371-run lead.

In England’s first innings, after Joe Root's fall, the team were at 71-4 at the end of 17 overs. Then came Ben Stokes, who forged a 106-run partnership with Jofra Archer before falling prey to his arch-rival.

How Starc dismissed Ben Stokes for "the 12th time"

Starc bowled a jaffa to bamboozle Ben Stokes on the first ball of the 85th over. Starc delivered a scrambled seam at 143.6 kph on a good length with a shade outside off.

The ball was sharp and tested the batter’s skills. Stokes had poor shot selection as he went for a drive down the ground instead of a forward defense. It left a big gap between the bat and the pad as the ball sneaked through to hit the stumps.

This dismissal recorded Starc dismissing any batter the most number of times in Tests, followed by Jonny Bairstow and Joe Root.

  • 11 - Joe Root (35 inns)

Ben Stokes, furious at the dismissal, jumped up in the air and coaxed himself for such a foolish mistake as Starc roared in his trademark aggressive celebration while running down the ground.

Stokes played a solid innings, though. He kept the scoreboard running with his gritty 198-ball 83 as he also swiped for 8 boundaries. The skipper did his part at No. 6, but the self-deprecating shout implies that a longer stay was needed for the visitors.

Nevertheless, England’s troops could not continue for long as they were wrapped up for 286 runs, with Australia still holding an 85-plus lead heading into their second innings.
