This was a nightmarish series for both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, the two stalwarts of the Indian team. For India to win the series Vs New Zealand, the duo of Kohli and Rohit had to perform, but that didn't happen.
Both failed to deliver the goods as New Zealand sneaked in and defeated India to clinch the 3-match series. Heading into the Mumbai Test match, a lot was expected of the deadly duo, but once again the same story repeated as Kohli and Rohit fell pray to some hostile bowling and left India in a spot to lose the match.
Talking about Kohli, he scored a gritty half-century in the Bengaluru Test match, but that was it as he couldn't do much in the entire series and accumulated only 93 runs. With another failure in the second innings of the 3rd Test, Kohli saw yet another downfall in his Test career as his average fell below the 48 mark, and it now stands at 47.83.
India needed him to deliver in the run-chase, but Kohli faltered as Ajaz Patel knocked him over for just 1 run.
India lose 5 as hopes rest on Pant's shoulders
In their hopes of achieveing a target of 147, India have already lost 5 wickets for 56 runs. All the big names including Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Yashasvi Jaiswal failed as India find themselves on the verge of an embarrasing series clean sweep.
All hopes rest on the shoulders of Rishabh Pant, who is playing yet another counter-attacking knock and could be the difference maker between a win and a loss. He is getting ample support from Ravindra Jadeja who is playing a brilliants second fiddle.
