Mumbai Indians Women beat Gujarat Giants Women by 47 runs in eliminator game to qualify for the final of the WPL 2025 season. Batting first, Hayley Matthews and Nat Sciver-Brunt stitched a 133-run partnership to power Mumbai to a record 213-run total. In the chase, Giants dug their own grave with unfortunate run-outs as they fell short of 47 runs in the steep chase.
Here’s how MI vs GG eliminator panned out in Mumbai:
Hayley Matthews, Nat Sciver-Brunt Thump 133-Run Partnership
Mumbai Indians Women batted first on the eve of the eliminator contest. However, MI lost opener Yatika Bhatia early in the powerplay. Danielle Gibson bowled a back of a length outside off delivery and Bhatia mistimed a pull shot straight to Bharti Fulmali at midwicket.
Regardless, Hayley Matthews and Nat Sciver-Brunt salvaged the damage to slam an enormous 133-run partnership for the second wicket. Both batters scored 77 runs each and within 16 overs, MI surpassed the 150-run mark.
Meanwhile, MI skipper Harmanpreet Kaur smacked the finishing touch, hitting 36 runs off just 12 balls. She hammered as many as four sixes to help MI surpass the 200-run mark and by the end of the first inning, Mumbai had 213 runs on the board at the loss of 4 wickets.
Crucial Run Outs Derails Gujarat Giants’ Chase
Gujarat Giants Women did not have a great start to the chase in the second inning. They lost two key batters, Danielle Gibson and Harleen Deol in unfortunate run-outs. Those critical miscommunications reduced the Giants to 43/3 inside the powerplay.
Phoebe Litchfield tried her best to rebuild the innings with a quick 31 off 20 balls, including 4 boundaries and a solitary six. However, the required run rate just kept scaling high.
MI Cruise To Final Of WPL 2025
Bharti Fulmali was the Giants’ last hope. She showed her flair with a quick 30 off 20 balls but got cleaned up by Hayley Matthews’ magic delivery. Bharti tried to make room to cut but was beaten by a delivery that skidded past the outside edge and crashed into the off-stump.
With Bharti, the Giants’ last hope was lost and Mumbai had hit the final nail in the coffin. The required run rate surpassed over 20 runs per over, with Giants’ tail fighting to pull off a miracle.
However, MI bowled out the Giants for 166 runs, leading to a mega 47-run victory and securing a place in the final of the WPL 2025 season.
