Indian cricketer Jemimah Rodrigues has backed Delhi Capitals teammate Shafali Verma to make a triumphant return to the ‘Women in Blue’ squad after getting dropped from the national line-up. It is worth noting that both Rodrigues and Verma are currently plying their trade for the Delhi Capitals franchise in the ongoing WPL 2025 season.
Verma has emerged as one of the leading run-makers of the tournament, doing so at an astonishing strike rate and a healthy batting average. The 21-year-old was dropped from the Indian women’s team back in October last year after a string of low scores at the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 in the UAE and during the home ODI series against New Zealand.
Jemimah Rodrigues hails Shafali Verma
While speaking with News18, Delhi Capitals and Team India star Jemimah Rodrigues praised Shafali Verma’s run-scoring spree in the ongoing WPL 2025 season. Moreover, Rodrigues also claimed that Verma will surely be making her return to the Indian team soon after getting dropped last year. She said:
“Shafali is such an inspiration in the way she’s come back. The kind of strike-rate and the kind of impact she’s been having for the team. I think it just shows her character.”
“But to be dropped and to come back the way she did, I think hats off to her. I can’t wait to see her. I’m sure she’ll be back soon in the Indian team too.”
Shafali Verma is one of only three players this WPL 2025 season to have scored either 300 or more runs. With exact 300 runs from just eight innings, Verma has maintained a healthy batting average of 42.85 and a staggering strike rate of 157.89. A couple of weeks ago against defending champions RCB, the blistering Delhi Capitals opener blasted a match-winning knock of 80* from just 43 balls with eight boundaries and four sixes.
Under the leadership of Meg Lanning, the Delhi Capitals will now be playing its third successive WPL final on March 15 at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai.
