In what can only be described as a stunning display of pace bowling, the Melbourne Renegades thrashed the Hobart Hurricanes in the ongoing 5th match of the Big Bash League 2024. Hurricanes bundled out for their lowest-ever total in the BBL. The Renegades’ bowlers dominated the first innings and dismissed the Hurricanes for a mere 74 runs. 

Talking about the match, earlier Melbourne Renegades won the toss and elected to bowl first on a pitch that seemed to favour the pacers. The decision proved to be a masterstroke as the Hurricanes crumbled under pressure, with their batters failing to put up any significant contribution.

Renegades Bowlers Dominate Hobart Hurricanes

The Hobart Hurricanes’ batting line-up, which was expected to challenge the Renegades’ bowlers, never got going. Opening batsman Matthew Wade was dismissed cheaply for just 5 runs. His departure early set the tone for what was to follow. 

Tom Rogers took three wickets and started things off in explosive fashion. He nearly claimed a hat-trick with a fiery spell that had the Hurricanes' top order in trouble. 

Hurricanes' top order collapsed like pack of cards and no top-order batter Matthew Wade, Mitchell Owen and Shai Hope made any significant contribution. 

It wasn’t long before Fergus O'Neill joined the wicket-taking spree and dismantled the middle-order. He produced a sensational triple-wicket over that left the Hurricanes in tatters. With the Hurricanes on the ropes, Will Sutherland came on and picked up another three wickets in a ruthless display of fast bowling and in no time Hurricanes’ batting collapsed at mere 74 runs in 12.4 overs. 

Hurricanes bundled out for their lowest-ever total in the BBL in today's match (December 19), However, the next lowest total of Hurricanes was 91 runs against Sydney Sixers in Sydney, 2015. Check the Hobart Hurricanes entire list of  lowest total:
