In a significant development, according to a report of Express Tribune, ICC has confirmed that Pakistan will host a major ICC event in 2028. The decision to award Pakistan hosting rights for the ICC Women’s Tournament in 2028 is part of an agreement between the ICC, Pakistan, and India. This agreement is intended to compensate the PCB for the financial setbacks they will face due to India’s withdrawal from the Champions Trophy in 2025.
Will Pakistan Host Women’s World Cup 2008?
The meeting, chaired by PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, revealed that the ICC had committed to compensate Pakistan for the financial damages. Sources from the meeting (according to Express Tribune) confirmed that the ICC's offer of compensation was carefully crafted to ensure that Pakistan would not be left at a disadvantage.
Although India initially offered Pakistan a monetary settlement for the losses, but the PCB chose not to accept the offer, and prioritise national dignity over financial recompense. Instead, Pakistan proposed a model where, for the next three years, neither India nor Pakistan would host each other for ICC events.
Despite these challenges, the ICC has affirmed its commitment to Pakistan's return to the international cricketing spotlight by awarding the country hosting rights for the Women’s World Cup in 2028.
It is important to mention that, the Champions Trophy 2025 will be played in a hybrid model. The much-awaited tournament will be co-hosted by Pakistan and Dubai, with matches split between the two locations. Pakistan is scheduled to host 10 matches of the tournament with all three of India's league matches, including the clash against Pakistan, will be held in Dubai.
