Virat Kohli adds new feathers on his illustrious hat

Virat Kohli added a few more features to his illustrious international hat for Team India. By fueling India’s successful run-chase against Australia in the first semifinal of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, the modern-day batting behemoth recorded his 74th ODI fifty, and his 125th score of fifty or more in the format.

Nonetheless, here is a look at all the new records he attained after his run-chase splendor against Australia:

3. First to 1,000 runs in ICC ODI Knockouts

Virat Kohli, who already held most runs to his name in the knockout matches of ICC ODI events with 939 runs, became the first cricketer in history to breach the 1,000-run mark in such scenarios. He currently holds 1,023 runs across all knockout matches (quarterfinal, semifinals and final) of ICC ODI tournaments like World Cups and Champions Trophy.

2. Becomes India’s leading run-getter in Champions Trophy

Virat Kohli also became India’s leading run-getter in ICC Champions Trophy history, going past former Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan’s tally. Dhawan composed 701 runs from 10 innings during his playing days at an average of 77.88. Kohli, meanwhile, currently sits on an illustrious pile of 746 runs from 16 innings.

1. Records most fifty-plus scores in ICC events

Virat Kohli also soared past Sachin Tendulkar in terms of recording the highest number of fifty-plus scores in ICC ODI events like World Cups and Champions Trophy. Kohli now has 24 such scores to his name, including 17 in World Cups (five centuries and 12 fifties) and seven in Champions Trophy (one ton and six fifties).
