South Africa captain and vintage opener Laura Wolvaardt blasted 169 runs from just 143 balls with 20 fours and four huge sixes to notch up a record Women World Cup knock. Her opening partner Tazmin Brits also scored 45 quick runs at the top, as the two cricketers forged a huge 116-run partnership in 22 overs. However, South Africa Women soon slipped from 116-0 to 202-6 courtesy of an English fightback orchestrated by Sophie Ecclestone (4-44) in the middle overs.
Marizanne Kapp made 42 off 33, and Chloe Tryon composed 33* from just 26 balls as South Africa overcame its middle-order setback to mount 319-7 in 50 overs.
Marizanne Kapp floors England with stunning five-fer
South Africa fast bowler Marizanne Kapp steamrolled the entire English batting line-up with a sensational five-wicket haul, starting off by getting rid of opener Amy Jones and number three Heather Knight both for ducks in the first over of the run-chase. The speedster also dismissed England captain and half-centurion Nat Sciver-Brunt to claim figures of 5-20 from her seven overs.
Apart from Nat, number five batter Alice Capsey also composed a fighting half-century. However, England still folded up for just 194 in 42.3 overs to fall 125 runs short of their target. For South Africa Women, Nadine de Klerk landed the finishing blow with final two wickets, while Ayabonga Khaka, Nonkululeko Mlaba and Sune Luus chipped in with a wicket each as South Africa reached the final of the 2025 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup.
