In the ongoing IPL 2025 Eliminator between Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Titans at the Mullanpur Stadium, records are being written before the start of the match. Notably, for Gujarat Titans, they are missing several overseas players because of international duties.

The most noticeable absentee for Gujarat is Jos Buttler, who has left the camp for the playoffs. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka's Kusal Mendis has replaced him and entered history books before the start of the match. Notably, Kusal, who is keeping gloves for GT in the ongoing match, has become the first-ever overseas player in the history of IPL to make their debut in playoffs.

Also, Kusal Mendis has become the second Sri Lanka player after Dasun Shanaka to play for Gujarat Titans in IPL.

Not A Great Debut For Kusal Mendis

Before the IPL, Mendis featured in the PSL, where he scored 143 runs, averaging 35.75 with a strike rate of 35.75. Talking about the ongoing match, Mendis had a terrible start to the IPL as he dropped a dolly behind the wicket and gave a lifeline to Rohit Sharma. Mohammed Siraj was unhappy with the attempt and also exchanged a few words out of frustration.
