KL Rahul Completes 4000 Runs As Opener In IPL; Joins Gayle, Warner, Virat Kohli In Elite List

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) captain continued his consistent run in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 clash against Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Saturday to complete 4000 runs as an opener in the lucrative tournament. 

The LSG composure maintained his composure despite losing his opening partner Quinton de Kock and top-order batter Marcus Stoinis early. He reached his half-century in 31 deliveries and in the process became the fifth batter in the IPL to complete 4000 runs as opener. He took 94 innings to achieve the feat. 

The premier India wicketkeeper-batter joins Shikhar Dhawan (6362), David Warner (5909), Chris Gayle (4480) and Virat Kohli (4041) in the elite list. 

Incidentally, Rahul has led by example in the ongoing season of IPL for LSG as he is the leading run-scorer for his franchise. The Karnataka batter has accumulated 317* runs in eight matches at an average of 39.62 with the highest score of 82. He has a decent strike rate of 137.82 in the ongoing season. 

Overall, Rahul has featured in 127 IPL matches, scoring 4517* runs at an average of 46.57 with the highest score of an unbeaten 132. He has four centuries and 36 half-centuries to his name in the lucrative tournament.
