Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) will look to continue their winning ways when they take on Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the ninth match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 on Thursday, April 6 at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.

Kolkata Knight Riders

The Nitish Rana-led KKR got off to a rocky start in the IPL 2023, suffering a seven-run loss to the Punjab Kings in a rain-shortened match, largely due to the inability of their key bowlers, namely Tim Southee, Sunil Narine, and Shardul Thakur to contain the opposition.

Adding to their woes, their batters failed to get going during the chase, leaving them with a daunting task. They recently signed Jason Roy as a replacement for Shakib Al Hasan, but his availability for the upcoming match is uncertain.

Royal Challengers Bangalore

Royal Challengers Bangalore, on the other hand, kicked off their campaign with a resounding eight-wicket win over the Mumbai Indians. With unbeaten innings from Virat Kohli (82 off 49) and Faf du Plessis (73 off 43), RCB chased down the target without breaking a sweat.

While their bowlers looked in a great form, the team was dealt a severe blow as the English pacer Reece Topley sustained an injury while fielding and has been ruled out of the upcoming match. It remains to be seen who they will select to fill the void.

Notably, this will be the first IPL match held at the Eden Gardens Stadium in Kolkata since the 2019 season. With two star-studded lineups, both teams will be eager to make their mark and put on an exciting T20 contest on Thursday.

Pitch Report: The surface at Eden Gardens is known to be slightly slower, and pacers might be able to extract some swing early on. The change of pace and bowling hard-lengths latter in the innings will be crucial for the bowlers. Batters will be eager to take advantage of the Powerplay restrictions and pile up runs with the hard new ball. Spinners will come handy in the middle overs. Anything around 170-190 will be the competitive total at this venue.
