A brilliant hundred from veteran keeper Mushfiqur Rahim (126 off 166) and a blazing 94-ball 87 from skipper Shakib Al Hasan and late strikes from spinners have helped Bangladesh assume a pole position at the close of play on the 2nd day of the one-off Test against Ireland.

Having begun the day at 34/2, the Tigers got off to a poor start as they lost former skipper Mominul Haque to Mark Adair at the score of 40.

The dismissal brought Bangladesh's two most experienced batsmen together, and over the course of the next 33 overs, the duo sent the Irish bowlers on a leather hunt, creaming 159 runs in the process.

Shakib was the most aggressive among the duo as the southpaw smashed as many as 14 fours in his 94-ball 87.

The partnership was eventually broken when Andy McBrine (6/118) dismissed Shakib against the run-of-play.

It didn't matter one bit though as Mushfiqur went about his merry way, with Litton Das (43 off 41) and Mehidy Hasan Miraz (55 off 80) giving him ideal company.

Rahim added 87 and 45 runs with Das and Mehidy, and during the process, he went on to bring up his 10th Test match hundred.

He was eventually dismissed for 126 by Andy McBrine- who claimed a well-deserved 6-for- and post his dismissal, Bangladesh endured a mini collapse, losing their last 4 wickets for 32 runs.

A first innings lead of 155 runs on a deteriorating surface meant that the Bangladesh spinners came out with their tails up, and the carnage soon ensued with Shakib and Taijul knocking over Ireland's top-order to leave the visitors gasping for breath at 27/4.
