In a remarkable achievement, Kane Williamson, the New Zealand captain, completed 1000 World Cup runs on Saturday (November 4), joining the ranks of just two other New Zealand batters who have achieved this milestone.

Williamson achieved the feat during his side's must-win group-stage clash against Pakistan in Match 35 of the ongoing World Cup 2023, held in M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru.

This achievement catapults the New Zealand captain into the pantheon of cricket greats, joining the likes of Stephen Fleming, who scored 1,075 runs, and Ross Taylor, who breached the 1,000-run mark with 1,002 runs in World Cup tournaments.

In terms of the number of innings required to reach 1000 World Cup runs, Kane Williamson is now the sixth fastest batter globally, accomplishing it in 24 innings. Topping the list jointly are David Warner and Rohit Sharma, who managed it in just 19 innings.

Innings' Taken to 1000 Runs in ODI World Cup:

• David Warner and Rohit Sharma: 19

• Sachin Tendulkar and AB de Villiers: 20

• Viv Richards and Sourav Ganguly: 21

• Mark Waugh and Herschelle Gibbs: 22

• Tilakaratne Dilshan: 23

Kane Williamson: 24*

The 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup in Bengaluru marks Kane Williamson's fourth appearance in this prestigious competition. His World Cup journey kicked off in 2011 and extended through the tournaments in 2015, 2019, and the current edition in 2023.
