Joe Root have become the highest individual scorer against Australia in day/night Tests, a feat previously held by Pakistan's Asad Shafiq since 2016. Such is Australia's dominance in pink ball Tests that it took 9 years for a player to dominate a list that contains a handful of names.

Joe Root played an unbeaten knock of 138 runs for England as he saw his companions tumble in regular intervals as the visitors docked up a total of 334 runs on the board.

Nevertheless, Joe Root achieved the historic feat as he broke Shafiq's Gabba record that saw him make 137 runs in 2016. Notably, Faf du Plessis also made his mark in this list with his 118* in Adelaide back in 2016.

Highest individual score vs Australia in Day/Night Tests

  • 138* - Joe Root, Gabba 2025
  • 137 - Asad Shafiq, Gabba 2016
  • 118* - Faf du Plessis, Adelaide 2016
  • 113 - Yasir Shah, Adelaide 2019
  • 104 - Stephen Cook, Adelaide 2016

Joe Root's knock comes after a lean patch in the Test series, as he managed only 8 runs in the first Test. His resurgence comes as he faced 206 balls grittily while forming the longest partnership with Zak Crawley.

Root's heroics help England crawl to respectable total

Notably, Joe Root came in after Ollie Pope fell in the third over, and England was reeling at 2/5. Root took the helm to weather the Mitchell Starc storm and guide England to a respectable total alongside contribution from Crawley.

The middle order of the hosts wasn't impressive much as Ben Stokes (19), Jamie Smith (0) and Harry Brook (31) all collapsed to nominal totals in frequent intervals.

Mitchell Starc was the pick of the bowlers with his 6-fer as Michael Neser, Brendan Doggett, and Scott Boland contributed with their one wickets each.
